I have had an awful day, but let's not get into that. There's only so much TL;DR emoing Livejournal can take on a day to day basis, and when I put in my application I was informed that today's quota had already been filled, could I come back on Monday?
So shall we play a game instead?
... Okay, a game. I recently discovered the art of Wikigroaning. For those of you wondering what the Hell Wikigroaning is when its at home, Something Awful has this convenient explanation. Since all I'd be doing is rehashing their version of it, let's just cut out the middleman and go with theirs.
Of course, I immediately saw the potential in this and decided it looked like great fun (if rather groan-inducing), so I just had to have a go myself. And what better time to do it than at the end of a lousy day?
So far I have found:
Oh, Wikipedia. This, in case you were wondering, is why nobody out there really takes you seriously.
I know, some of my so-called normal people are intellectual snobs par excellence, but I just couldn't Worse, that's just the tip of the iceberg. I didn't even have to think very hard about most of this. (Though I still wish I'd found a way to work in a link to 'uke'. There must be a way. There must also be a way to involve 'bishonen' and 'Weiss Kreuz', but I have yet to find it.) Seriously, Wikipedia, I love you dearly, you're great for a general overview and for pointing people in the right direction, and without you my fanfic research would become a lot harder. But I'm not entirely sure you've got your priorities straight.
So, that being said - anyone else want to play? I could probably keep this up all night, but for now I think I'm going to finish this wine I've gotten (God, I love my landlady) and have a nap, given that part of the lousiness that was today was provoked by exhaustion.
Thanks, Wikipedia. You're a sport.

The premise is quite simple. First, find a useful Wikipedia article that normal people might read. For example, the article called Knight. Then, find a somehow similar article that is longer, but at the same time, useless to a very large fraction of the population. In this case, we'll go with Jedi Knight. Open both of the links and compare the lengths of the two articles. Compare not only that, but how well concepts are explored, and the greater professionalism with which the longer article was likely created. Are you looking yet? Get a good, long look. Yeah. Yeeaaah, we know, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. (We're calling it Wikigroaning for a reason.)

The next step is to find your own article pair and share it with your friends, who will usually look for their own pairs and you end up spending a good hour or two in a groaning arms race. The game ends after that, usually without any clear winners... but hey, it beats doing work.
