The Reason Tired People Should Not Make LJ Posts.

Two random thoughts before I go back to bed and try and get a bit more sleep... which is exactly and entirely what I get for falling asleep at eight in the evening and ending up owl-wide awake at half past four and absolutely unable to get back to bed no matter how hard I tried as a consequence...

1. Has anyone seen

kay_cricketed? She hasn't posted since the third! I miss her particular brand of random and want to virtually hug her for being cute because she is. I'll poke those unanswered comments I owe her which work, that bastard, kept me from with the victorious spork of replyingness sometime later today and see if I can get a reaction out of her. Come back, Kay, your people need you!

2. Why has Honey Trap, which doesn't actually have much of a pairing but is a Youji x Ken fanfic if it's actually anything at all considering the ~~pointless and utterly gratuitous~~ completely and entirely vital Youji x Ken kissing scene which is of course entirely justified from the point of view of the plot, archived in this c2 when that's a Ran x Ken archive? I mean, this is not to say I'm not flattered but what in Hell's my fic doing there? I do not knowingly write RanKen! I'm a YoKen ficcer. BLATANTLY. Aya's barely in the bloody thing. I think he shows up three or four times and most of the time it's because Ken's complaining about what a pain in the ass he is or is fantasizing about throwing things at him or smacking him in the face. I think someone's been reading between the lines and in so doing read far more into the fic than is actually there.

This is why ff.net statistics are Evil. They tell you far more about your readership than you ever wanted to know. Like some people out there have taken me for a RanKen ficcer when 99.95% of my Weiss fics are either blatant YoKen or drop serious hints in that direction. Can anyone out there tell me what about 'Honey Trap' could possibly be interpreted as supporting the RanKen cause when it's a pairing that baffles me at best, Ken gets KISSED by Youji in it and I'm the one who bloody well wrote it and know for a fact I didn't put any RanKen in it? I'm completely baffled. What's next? Is someone going to try and tell me that 'Seuche' (which, by the way, I recently updated and am now whoring out here because I can) is secretly Ran x Ken too?

This is also why Weiss fans worry me. A lot.

I would probably leave the site too but for one thing - I met well over half my flist through my various attempts to post fic at ff.net, and for now I can at least handle the voles. Though I kind of wish they'd go away. There are a lot of things about that site I don't like, the invasion of the Teenies from Mars being but one of them, but for now I can kind of handle it.

Well, kind of.

That is to say, I hope.

... I just can't quite understand how anyone could take me for a RanKen ficcer, or that fic as even remotely supporting the pairing. I should know, right? I mean, it was me who wrote it.

I fully understand the evil that is the Pit today...but I still try and remember the good times when there were adult fics there and life was sweet. *sigh* Nostalgia can be depressing...

There's a hole in the Web like a great black pit and it goes by the name of Fanfiction.net, to paraphrase a song from 'Sweeny Todd'.

And I guess I'm showing my age when I say I remember when it was actually a pretty good place to archive your fanfiction and get feedback on it. I remember it back when it was a far smaller site, for a start. Far fewer rules. Far more categories. Far much more freedom for the author. I really AM showing my age by saying remember I used to archive NC-17 rated fics up there with no trouble at all, and that I used to have a whole slew of original fiction up there, before they shunted it all off to fictionpress.

When exactly DID ff.net go to the voles? It happened so gradually I hardly even noticed it... I guess its condition is terminal now. One of these days I'll probably jump ship like God knows how many others, but right now I'm clinging on. I at least need to finish my WIP before I even consider stopping posting there.

'Honey Trap' has been archived in a RanKen archive? Wait, what? I'm so lost. I can barely remember him even being in the fic. That's crazy. But we all know how well RanKen fans can deny the obvious and see things where there's nothing.

I know! It makes no sense at all! I can barely remember Aya being in the fic either, and I'm the damned author! I'd email the person who runs the archive if I didn't think it'd look precious, but... I really do not want people reading 'Honey Trap' thinking it's got Ran x Ken in it, partly because they'll be disappointed but mainly because I do not want to be taken for a Ran x Ken ficcer. I don't write that pairing. I don't even particularly like it. I can read fics with it in, but that's about as far as it'll go.

... maybe this is just another example of some RanKen fangirl seeing something where there's nothing, though. Why 'Honey Trap', though? It doesn't really HAVE a pairing. Sure, I drop killer hints for Youji x Ken and have that entirely justified kissing scene in chapter three, but Ken in that fic gets far further with a guy who thinks he's a woman than he does with any of his teammates.

No offense to anyone who does like the pairing but god DAMN, where does it come from aside from wishful thinking? There's just no logic to it whatsoever. Aya and Ken start out trying to kill each other and it doesn't get better for years. About the only place I could go with Ran x Ken would be in Weiss Side B and that only because Youji's out the picture and I'd rather slash Ken with someone he was in Weiss with than someone he only knows from Kryptonbrand. Why? I dunno. Just my personal taste.

And I think thou and I need to send out a search party. Get hunting rifles and a big net. Nothing is too much trouble if it gets us Kay back.

I don't blame you for not wanting people reading it thinking it's got RanKen in it. It's strange that it's even in there. Really, I think it's just those crazed RanKen fangirls reading between the lines again. Maybe the whole 'Ken-crossdressing' thing equates to RanKen in their warped little minds.

I agree on Side B being the only place to go for RanKen. Poor PlotContrivance!Youji and his Really Butchered Hair. Ken's just so cute in Side B, too.

I'm all for a search party. Maybe two big nets. Truthfully I'm a bit worried. It's been so long!

I think RanKen fangirls are warped. I mean, I never used to have anything much agin them despite the fact that their OTP was stupid and a fair few of them sneer about ours never mind that it's so much better and about a million times more logical, but this is just making me baffled. Reading between the lines? I don't think they've got words for what the person who archived ity was doing. I think she was reading a totally different story, myself. I'm surprised they even LOOKED at it given that most of them seem to be into making Aya cross-dress because he's just so pretty and wonderful and all.

(You know we bitch about Aya being perfectful? I found a fic the other day where he's reading Kipling and Whitman and making perfect omelettes and being a fantastic dancer, all the while making sensitive presents, really understanding his teammates and being overall perfect and wonderful. Creeped me right out I must say...)

I feel for Youji in Side B. Not only have they done crazy crazy things to his hair, he's goddamn well married. Have extreme difficulty trying to get decent YoKen slash out of that series. Pity, because Ken's amazing in Side B. And still in need of multiple hugs because god damn, not even the 'Ken's the non-angsty one' brigade could deny he was a complete fuck-up by that stage. But a cute one. Who cooks. OMG adorable.

And I notice Kay came back by herself, so we need to cancel the order for the hunting gear...

Oh my gosh! I'm alive! I really am! *feels terrible* Well, sort of. I've been battling schoolwork and last minute tests like crazy this past week, not to mention working insanely on an original story for my workshop class. I'm so relieved to have it done, I can't even tell you. Whew.

Honey Trap? As a Ran x Ken? O.o How does that even WORK? Seriously, it's so blatantly Youji x Ken that... I just... I... *brain explodes* What?

Yes, you do deserve it. You deserve it because you're YOU. Okay? *hugs like a mad thing* Good thing you came back, because I was about to wonder if you'd been sent on another camping trip like the one you mentioned being enforced on you a while back, and had frozen half to death then been abducted by alien bears or something. Family trips are bad even without alien bears, so I had to be sure. Yup.

But that didn't actually happen, so yay! for that. And I am amazed by all the commenting you have done. You have teh stamina. I am not nearly half that good about commenting. Hm. There's a New Year's Resolution in that, I think.

Yup, in a Ran x Ken fic archive. No, I don't know how it works either and I'm the damned author. Come on, Youji kisses Ken. And has to pretend to be dating him to get them into the club and away from perverts. Kind of. Well, they think he's a girl so as far as they know they're just being creepy, but you know what I mean.

Still. YoKen. Yes. Blatantly hint-ful toward it. I think my brain went splodey when I realized it.

... Weiss fans scare me. Ran x Ken scares me.
