Well, Nobody's Perfect.
Bonus points for anyone who identifies the quote! (Come on, it's easy.)

... I know I just did a meme post - thingy - but I was sitting here getting bored and had nothing to do since nobody else is online, and the wank comms are quiet, and I already caught up with Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged. So I did some memes and - well, I had to post this. You see, apparently I am a chap. A very dapper, traditional kind of chap at that.

Your Score: Masculine

You scored 60 masculinity and 43 femininity!

You scored high on masculinity and low on femininity. You have a traditionally masculine personality.

The Bem Sex Role Inventory Test written by weirdscience

*checks down shirt*

Yup, still a girl. Damn!

The weird thing is, I actually expected this. Every time I do these sex-role or gender of the mind online tests I end up being told I'm a guy, and pretty damn firmly a guy at that. Every. Single. Time. And I'm beginning to get the feeling they might be right, largely because I'm just not very good at being female.

I know they're only online quizzes, but I constantly get the same results. I think they're trying to tell me something.

Well, at least I'm consistent, I guess.

I also have heinous reading tastes. )

In other news, I did a lot of washing, but then it rained. At least I managed to get a couple of things properly dried before it happened (something to do with the fabric, I guess) so at least I have clean pants for tomorrow. I'm sure I'll be able to find a shirt somewhere.

Just for the Hell of It...
First off, please heed my dire warnings:

Online Dating

Lies! Damn lies, I say! I - oh, well, I guess I do talk about gay porn and curse from time to time. So I guess you have been warned.

I have absolutely nothing to say, but I want to post anyway.

Correction: I have absolutely nothing to say that won't come across as incredibly whiny - I'm trying to keep the RL TL;DRing to a minmum, since nobody wants to hear about it and, more importantly, I don't really think dwelling on it helps - but I want to post anyway. Because you know, I pay for this service and god dammit I want my money's worth out of it.

73% Geek

But! I have been wreaking a polite kind of havoc over at [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets.

See, someone posted this secret, and as a non-canon shipper - well, technically speaking anyway, though Youji and Ken are not exactly what I would call subtle, as there comes a point where it is no longer subtext and if they don't want us to think that they are picking out china patterns they shoud stop fighting like they're married and have been for at least the last five years - I was shocked and appalled. Shocked and appalled, I say.

At first, I posted a comment pointing out how shocked and appalled I was, though I attempted to be at least mindly amusing, and it was all very ordinary and boring and largely ignored. Well. Completely ignored. Though I did use a rather pretty Youji x Ken icon on the post. (And am now using it again, for it is rather pretty.)

So I got bored and asked about the possibility of a thread in which the community members could show off their non-canon pairing icons. Partly because I'm petty klike that, but mostly out of curiosity. It seemed as good a way as any to work out how many people shipped non-canon pairings.

My inbox promptly exploded.

At one point I was getting so many messages I couldn't keep track of them all, and nor could MSN Messenger's email alert. I had to mark eighty-three messages as read without even opening them. I'm still getting the occasional comment notification now. Gratuitous Icon Posts are obviously very much the in thing on [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets.

Especially when it is about a serious matter of seriousness about characters who are cute and go well with other men, other women, or other small furry creatures from Alpha Centuri.

Have Some Memes (because life is boring)
Before I start: happy (belated) birthday to [livejournal.com profile] plasticmonkey!

Now - memes.

Yeah, it's that time again. I want to post something but I don't want to have to think that hard about it; everybody else is doing them; I'm waiting for someone (anyone!) to come online so I can talk to them and hopefully RP with them, maybe, if the right people show up at decent times; I need to distract myself from something I am trying hard not to think about, still less whine about; I'm not in the mood for a fandom or fanfic rant; there's nothing interesting doing on the wank comms.

Which, I guess, means that it's time to post some memes on the grounds that they're marginally less boring than anything else I could choose to try and write about.

First, the Because-Everybody's-Doing-It Pie Chart Meme:

So, quietladybirman, your LiveJournal reveals...

You are... 9% unique (blame, for example, your interest in twisted schuken powerplays) and 17% herdlike (partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy yaoi). When it comes to friends you are normal. In terms of the way you relate to people, you are wary of trusting strangers. Your writing style (based on a recent public entry) is conventional.

Your overall weirdness is: 41

(The average level of weirdness is: 27.
You are weirder than 83% of other LJers.)

Find out what your weirdness level is!

The sad thing is that this doesn't surprise me in the slightest. No, I have no idea where I got this from - as I said, damn near everybody's doing it. Maybe I should just throw a dart at my friendslist and blame whoever it ends up nearest.

This one was stolen from [livejournal.com profile] weiss_badfics' friends list.

/selfpimp

Also, am I the only person who wishes people would stop spamming [livejournal.com profile] wk_icons with links to cross-posted dumps of twenty or thirty-plus icons, of which less than four actually have anything to do with Weiss? Look, if you have twenty-odd icons and two of them are actually relevant to the community, and you're posting to the community anyway - why don't you just (and it's a radical thought, I know) post the two icons which are actually Weiss-related to the community and give us a link to the rest of the goddamn icon dump if you really must pimp the rest of them in a community that ISN'T GODDAMN INTERESTED?

Also also, I heard they might be making a movie of Affinity, which is one of my absolute favoritest books (and is, in fact, currently sitting in front of me on the table). I would like to be delighted - I'd love to see it adapted, I think it's crying out for it - but most of me is absolutely terrified.

Don't let them fuck with the ending. Please, Screenwriting Gods, do not let them fuck with the ending.

Backdated for Memage
Oh look! An MP3 player meme!

I no longer remember where I found this, and I don't think I already filled this out, but who cares if I did? It's an MP3 player meme and I am going to do it anyway, because you never get the same thing twice, they're pretty much all the same when you come down to it and therefore terribly stupid fun!

Random MP3 Player meme I Found in a .TXT File:
Put your playlist on shuffle and fill it out with the first song that pops up.

Where do you live: rain and storm, Yuki Kajiura
Describe your first love: Awake, Yuki Kajiura
What is your favourite thing to do: white eyes, Gackt
Describe your current love/crush: Nancy Boy, Placebo [Uh... okay?]
What do you like to wear: AGE, Janne da Arc
What is your challenge: Forced Dimension, Angel Sanctuary OST
Who are your friends: Dance Me to the End of Love, Leonard Cohen
Describe how you look: Get in the Ring, Guns n' Roses
What did you do last night: Love Goes Like..., Kumi Koda
What is your goal in life: If..., Shazna
What do you do when you're angry: Sel-fish, Duè le quartz
When do you have sex: Otome wa DO MY BEST deshou?, Mai-Otome OST
How do you want to die: Dive Into Shine, Lastier
What do you say to your parents: Alternate Dimension, Angel Sanctuary OST
Where do you hang out: when... 25:17, Lareine
What do you think of society: Guilty Pain, Janne da Arc
Describe your most recent heartbreak: Lilium, Kumiko Noma
What is your excuse for everything: Koi Suru Kokoro, eufonius
What are your thoughts on a Friday evening: Kasumi, Dir en grey
What is your unanswered question about life: Syunikiss, Malice Mizer
What is your favorite colour: CAT, B'z
What is your advice to the those less experienced: Burning Passion, Angel Sanctuary OST
What would you rather do right now: Flowers on the Wall, The Statler Brothers [Okay, this one's actually scarily apt.]
Describe your best friend: The Partisan, Leonard Cohen
What's under your bed: seed, Janne Da Arc
What is your most prized possession: Swallow, Placebo
Where will you honeymoon: She Hates Me, Richard Cheese
What is on your to-do list: Normal Battle, Nobuo Uematsu
Where would you rather be: Deep River, Hikaru Utada

I think my MP3 player is telling me to listen to more J-Rock. And the Angel Sanctuary OST.

And I didn't get a single Weiss Kreuz song this time. Shock. Considering how goddamn many of them I have lurking here and there on this MP3 player, that's actually quite surprising. And also conclusive proof that I didn't actually cheat this time, I guess.

Cute, but Stupid. )

... and one more, which I shamelessly ganked from [livejournal.com profile] flos_campi but thanks to my sneaky and dishonest backdating it looks like I found first. Which I did not. This one was hard, because I'm a very verbose person. Presenting...

2006: In Memoriam.
Year? You will NOT be missed. You sucked. A lot. You wore me out, destroyed my physical and mental health, killed my ambitions along with three of my teeth, crashed my creativity chip for months on end and did your absolute utmost to reduce me to a depressed, shattered wreck. You'll excuse me if I say FUCK YOU, 2006. Please go away. Now.

(Though, in mitigation, I have to admit you did do some pretty damn awesome stuff too, like introduce me to [livejournal.com profile] cards_slash. That was cool of you.)

LiveJournal Review of the Year Meme

Instructions:
Go into your lj calendar. For each month, post the first sentence of the first entry for each month, and the last sentence of the last entry for each month.
This will create a summary of your lj for the year 2006. Exclude quiz sentences.

January
I don't like to think how long I've spent watching FMA over the last day or so apart from Far Too Long.
Still, I'm on Chapter Three of my Mary Sue parody, I've been writing Seuche on the bus again and I've finally worked out what I'm doing about that opening-ficlet-thingy-whatever-you-call-it I wrote about Kase and Ken, so maybe there's hope for my creativity chip yet.

February
Well, this wasn’t supposed to happen.
I'm really hoping to get on with Seuche - it's taking too long given how easy I'm finding it to write - so what's the betting I end up writing Roses in Rain instead?

March
OHMYGOD I am indecently happy.
Call me cynical, but I honestly can't see many people getting much use out of this thing...

April
Dear General-You Fanthing, So, you're writing Alternate Universe fiction?
I couldn't manage to write much on the bus, which is a sure sign that things just weren't going well...

May
Dear Fangirl who reviewed That SchuKen Fic, I'm extremely flattered that you liked my fic enough to leave me a review.
Suspect that was getting old in 1998-- But that really is another story.

June
Oh.
Now, does anyone know where I can find some decent Schuldich x Ken fics?

July
... as England got knocked out of yet another World Cup?
Damn you, Japan!

August
Okay.
And that would be no fun at all.

September
I'm back in London and going on a diet.
Do you think bonging household cleaning chemicals would shift them, or should I perhaps buy a shotgun and blow my brains out?

October
Dear Mary Sue, You know, it's getting pretty tiring watching you lay into handsome, charming, sexually successful young men simply because you want to prove that you're Different, Special and absolutely Not Like The Other Girls and so Won't Be Taken In By The Playboy's Charms - and, let's face it, these guys are, for their various reasons, pretty damn charming.
Still, at least turning them off largely solves the problem, unlike all the rest of it which was borked and just sat there being borked, because nothing I could do made the damnedst bit of difference to the way it displayed.

November
For a change, this is not due to become a [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants post, because I know the opinions I'm about to express seem to be rather unpopular, but it was inspired by one... Because sometimes I just don't get fanficcers.
Or am I just going mad?

December
Today has been, in all sorts of ways, a very good object lesson in why I do not want to have children.
If 2007's no better than this, I'm either slitting my wrists or joining a nunnery.

God, this was a depressing exercise (though I'm glad most of the really depressing stuff seemed to happen mid-month so I didn't have to reread it). Note the first stirrings of what would become my Impending Doom in April. And the first stirrings of the plotbunny that became That FarfKen Fic in September. And also the all-too-frequent [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants cross-posts.

Actually, I'd say that was a pretty good summary.

Thank you and goodnight.

This is officially teh awesumm.

and backdated for extreme pointlessness, but oh well.

Thanks once again to [livejournal.com profile] weiss_badfics friends list for this. I find some really intereseting stuff there, you know. Obviously there are some interesting people reading that journal.

Meaning I have become acquainted with the awesome that is - well, you'll see. Though I did have to gently tweak the HTML so that it didn't screw my layout completely and am going to have to go round saving all the goddamn images to my photobucket account sometime (read: within the next five minutes - I hate leaving things half finished) to prevent them from vanishing off on me if and when this site goes down. Which will be annoying. But until then, it remains teh awesumm, and I wholeheartedly approve of it.

See?

NOW YOU ALL MUST DO IT TOO BECAUSE IT'S AWESOME. If you want to, that is.

Anyone who can tell what they're all supposed to be is far cleverer than I am. Even knowing my own interests list, I can't work out what the Hell some of them are supposed to be in aid of. Rather pleased to see there was a picture for 'Usagi Kou', though. And Tomokazu Seki and Yuki Kajiura both appear to be rather prettier than I thought they were going to be.

(I think Weiss Kreuz shows up like four times, at least. That's what I get for listing 'Ken Hidaka with guns' as an interest and expecting this thing not to be confused. It couldn't really handle Youji x Ken, either. I got that weird gray angel fanart picture for that. I wish I knew what images I'd gotten for 'Obsessively listening to Moonflower' and 'twisted SchuKen non-con', though. I know the two guys at the bottom are representing 'my thoughts on yaoi'...)

MY KEN IMAGE IS FROM STRAFE OMG SQUEE.

Another post to follow inevitably: I've been making icons and am eager to share the fruits of my labors, which is why I didn't update this for a quite amazing ho-hum length of time. Though I should probably have been working on that Powell x Ken fanfic given that the bunnies have been eating my brain. eating my brain, I tell you. Oh well, tonight for sure.

And [livejournal.com profile] vermachtnis? I HATE you for getting me hooked on Yuki Kajiura.

It Doesn't Take Much To Make Me Happy.
Random Occasion for Happiness of the Moment:

I have my book back. Yay!

You see, about this time last year I lent one of my favorite books (fucked-up Victorian lesbians ftw!) to my landlady's best friend, because she'd read two other books by the same author and hadn't had a chance to finsd this one yet. Being a charitable soul, and also thinking it was the author's best book, I decided to lend it to her. I have not seen it since. Though I have mentioned it several times. And I have missed it a lot.

Well, that's not entirely true since I saw it on the freezer in the hall this morning, promptly squeed and have been carrying it around with me ever since, occasionally reading random bits just for the sake of reading them. Because I HAVE IT BACK, oh yes. Makes me happy.

Incidentally, it's been a long time since I found one of these.

The Soundtrack of your Life
So, here's how it works:

1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, etc).
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press play.
4. For every question type the song that's playing.
5. When you go to a new question press the next button.

Ready? GO!

Fear my hilariously inapt taste in music! )

... my 'Mental Breakdown' theme is one of Tomokazu Seki's Ken songs. And that's an OH WOW THE MEME KNOWS ME! moment if there ever was one. I'm still giggling over here. I always knew my obsession with Ken Hidaka was doing me absolutely no favors. This is probably A Sign of some sort. A Sign I intend to gleefully ignore because dammit, Ken’s cute.

Meme thing ganked off [livejournal.com profile] flos_campi. I was grateful. Oh yes.

Also, I have found an absolutely diabolical piece of badfic which I intend to apply the spork to post haste. I wasn't going to spork today, but rare treasures like this do not come often and I intend to make the best of this one. Bad? Oh yes, it's bad. It is very, very bad, involves Cliche!Homophobia and the tragic death of Ken's first lover, Matt, in a gay-bashing incident, a girl called 'Marybalus' and some of the most ridiculous plot twists EVER.

I intend to make it pay for its presumption. And the girl called Marybalus.

Onwards and downwards!

"There are various quotations about a spirit having a bath."
Ugh. Well, I'm sick again.

Yeah. I staggered into work after an amazingly crappy night's sleep and spent the morning staggering around the ward like a zombie, then they got the food trolley out for lunch and I had to go throw up. The smell of the food just got to me, which is a sure sign that I need to check out. So I told the sister and she told me to go home.

I got home about half three, collapsed on my bed and slept through until about eleven at night. And then staggered up to use the phone and call in sick.

I would be back in bed now, but I've been reading selected bits of selected Terry Pratchett novels about the Ankh-Morpork City Watch, because they rule. So it's kept me up for a bit. I shamelessly ship Sam/Sybil, for the record - a canon pairing, and a het one too. Maybe there's hope for me and my love of canon pairs yet, even if I do seem to have become physically incapable of writing anything but Youji x Ken fiction. Part of me still wants to try my hand at Ken x Omi because it's the cutest, fluffiest Weiss pairing ever, but maybe I'll leave that those as are good at it.

Now for the tick-the-box terror meme everyone else has been doing.

Click here for box-ticking fun of the meme variety.

I miss somebody right now.  (my dad... sad but true.) I don't watch much TV these days.  (Unless having the thing on in the background when I'm at work counts. Which I don't think it does because I'd rather it wasn't on.) I own lots of books.
I wear glasses or contact lenses. I love to play video games. × I've tried marijuana.
× I've watched porn movies. × I have been the psycho-ex in a past relationship. I believe honesty is usually the best policy.
I curse sometimes. I have changed a lot mentally over the last year. × I carry my knife/razor everywhere with me.

The chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one, and still they come... )

Whee.

Now I'm going back to bed.

And I've got a hideous Endurance Sue to spork tomorrow in which an Policeman!Ken falls in love with a green-haired robot girl (or 'marionette', in the ficcer’s world, though I can’t see what makes her any different to any other robot girl) and for various truly pathetic reasons I want to put the report up on [livejournal.com profile] marysues as well - not least of which because damn, I hate that Sue - and nausea and vomiting or not I'm going to spork it, so I need to get a good night's sleep so the Sue doesn't make me vomit. Later.

... and I still love my mood theme.

In Which laila Has Nothing to Say and As Such Does Memes Again.
Ugh.

Placement has been... well, I won't go into it. You've got eleven more weeks of me bitching and moaning like a good'un about my problems (which will no doubt be both imaginative and extremely multifarious) with my placement and how much I hate working in medicine (as opposed to surgery, I mean, not working in medicine in general), so I think it's best if I try and pace myself. Don't want to peak too early, you know?

So, instead of moaning about it, I shall do memes. Because memes are always fun and they take my mind off things. Like my placement and how I really don't want to be there. First off: the old stuff I got from... somewhere and just never posted at all. Ever.

Introducing: a lot of stuff I took and never did anything with. )

Anyway, though I've backdated this courtesy of my being a lazy procrastinating ass and not touching my journal for the last few days (reason to follow in the hope that the kind denizens of my friends list will bitchslap me back to somethiong resembling sense) and it looks like I got to this thing first, I didn't. I think someone said I had another meme to do or something, but I honestly can't remember what it was. Poke me to remind me and I'll try to do it or something. "I'm so ronery, so ronery, so ronery and sadry arone..."
Damn you, Team America soundtrack!

Okay: not a whole lot going on in my quiet little world at the moment. Everyone's headed home for the holidays and isn't posting (I'm guessing that's where [livejournal.com profile] kay_cricketed vanished off to so suddenly? Waah, I miss everybody!). Which is a bit weird, but not exactly unexpected. Though it does make me feel like the Original Pathetic Geek. Which, if one looks at the personal shopping I accomplished the other day, is only exactly what I am, so I can't say it's not fitting.

(I can't stop listening to Kesenai Tsumi either, which adds to the impression.)

Anyway, I'm taking that as a clue I should get off my ass, out of London and do the same. I miss my family at the moment, absence making the heart grow fonder and all that. So I'm going to head home Wednesday.

Yeah. I would go home sooner (like, um, tomorrow), but my parents won't be back from their mini-break until Wednesday, so there's not really a lot of point my going home any earlier when there'd be nothing to do but sit round - which I can do in London - and none of my stuff would be there and I wouldn't have my nice black and white Weiss Kreuz clear poster to stare at. Though I made it not-clear by sticking paper behind it, because my walls are covered in red, blue and yellow blotches, none of which look good behind clear posters. And then I had problems with shadows making the guys' faces look weird, so I had to cut some more white paper up and stick it all just behind the images. It worked, though.

... oh, the little things I take pride in achieving.

Oh. Courtesy of my Friends of Friends list, I have found an amusing terror meme which I know I haven't done yet. It's another mp3 player meme, which makes me very happy because it means I won't actually have to think about anything in order to fill it out, so I'm going to do it and see what happens. Even if it does mean I have to stop listening to Kesenai Tsumi while I accomplish it...

Put your playlist on shuffle and fill it out with the first song that pops up.

... okay, that was stupid. Which is, admittedly, the fault of my taste in music and not the meme. Though (even if I did cheat a little) my mp3 player appears to be very fond of Hikaru Utada at the moment. I'm getting a bit worried about him.

But it made me laugh. Albeit silently. It IS two in the morning.

By the way, I found another terrible Weiss fanfiction. Terrible by its premise, and even worse when you try and read it. Because what else could a Weiss Kreuz/Harry Potter crossover be if it wasn't a hideous abortion of an idea that should never have seen the light of day?

You see? Nothing doing here at all, except for the fact I've just discovered one of the actresses in Memoirs of a Geisha (which I don't intend to see) is apparently named Youki Kudou, which had me doing a double-take for a moment there. But there'd be even less to do in Kent save more of the same. Shouldn't I have a social life or something like most other people of my age?

... why, why, why does hide's Honey Blade always make me think of Shinobu? OC Shinobu, that is?
