OMG. JUST. OMG. NEW STAR TREK MOVIE.

You must go and see this if you haven't done already. Seriously. Just go see it. Stop reading this post and go buy a ticket and see it you'll thank me later. If you react anything like I did you'll be thanking me by the time the title shows up because it's just, like, OMG. And I know I sound like a Valley girl but there is no other response to this.

Because there is just--okay, will try and refrain from spoilers and just generally spazz because while spazzy may be annoying it's also not ruining anything for anyone (reasonable). Suffice to say that was the Star Trek movie I have been waiting to see for years and never even knowing it. To shamelessly plagiarize rokesmith who was seeing the movie with me but is not LJing about it in retrospect so I feel totally justified in stealing his words, that after years of being very earnest and dull and a bit talky and taking itself massively seriously Star Trek has finally become fun again. 'Starfleet Officer' has once again become one of the most awesome fictional professions because there's excitement and adventure and things going boom and fistfights! There are lots of fistfights and many of them involve Kirk.

This is good, this is like the original series, danger happens and then Kirk fights some guys and McCoy is snarky and yes he was snarky and then Spock does the eyebrow thing. Zachary Quinto is very good at doing the eyebrow thing.

My initial reaction was to grab cards_slash and be all OMG DID YOU SEE? SPOCK DID THAT THING. IT WAS COOL. AND THEN HE DID SOMETHING ELSE AND IT WAS AWESOME AND THEN MORE AWESOME HAPPENED WHEN HE DID THAT WITH THE STUFF. And I'd totally fill in the details here but am trying not to be spoileriffic. Just Spock was awesome and he did things with stuff and that made him even more so.

Anyway. Stuff that I can't talk about aside (like the plot, because if you have watched it you know exactly what I mean and if you haven't you just need to go - this is not a film to experience secondhand, seriously, WATCH IT, it's fab) the casting was just perfect. I loved Kirk and McCoy so much but unfortunately did not concentrate on them as much as I ought to because I loved Scotty and of course Spock so much. They were just total total win especially Zach Quinto who almost makes me want to watch Heroes even though I kind of thought I didn't want to but he is awesome and stole every single scene he was in, sometimes with Simon Pegg as his partner in crime. He was Spock and he was made of win.

Also, pretty. Pretty awkward weird guy who makes the Spock Haircut look good. Yeah.

Must resist urge to ship Kirk and Spock but. OMG. It's just... well, come on. Some things are just right, dammit, and it's where the word 'slash' comes from after all. I'd just be going with the flow.

To conclude: OMG NEW STAR TREK MOVIE GO SEE IT can I watch it again oh please I'll be ever so good.
