Behind The Times
Everything I tried to do today took longer than it should.

I've been at my parents' over Christmas, as usual. Of course - not particularly typically - they weren't there for some of it, which explains why I was so late coming back. They were away for about a week, and if I hadn't stayed down there an extra week I would have barely seen them. Which, all told, wouldn't exactly have made it worth my while coming down in the first place. This, I guess, is what you might call portentous, at least as regards the Viking saga that today became.

My father planned to leave for London at seven this morning. At half past nine I was still in bed and rather baffled to be there. My mother, when I found her, said that my father had decided to have a slower day of it and take his time over getting up. He apparently decided this at about four in the morning and failed to pass it on to me because I (perhaps unusually) was asleep.

I went back to sleep when I realized this. Everything was packed, so there was nothing else I could really do.

We finally got going at about one in the afternoon. The journey was atypically quick, but when I got there and got everything out the car it looked as if a bunch of Bedouin was camping on my bedroom floor. Either that or as if I was about to apply for membership in the Bedouin Campers' Association. I had a lot of boxes and bags and random pieces of equipment that required Dealing With before I could even begin to move around. It took at least three hours before I could even get round to putting away my clothes.

The most major fuss was probably my decision to (finally) bring my stereo up to London with me. It's old and kinda unreliable, but it still works, and I was reluctant to leave it at home to get dumped when it's still largely okay.

Problem was, it did mean rearranging the bookshelf.

Even once that was dealt with it took forever to get otrganized. It really should not take as long as it did to get unpacked. I can normally deal with everything in an hour and a half. Today it took three or four, at least, and required some quite major room-rearranging, which only made matters worse. I missed lunch because of it and felt utterly awful as a result due to being seriously out of energy, then I missed dinner because I fell asleep due to said lack of energy and didn't wake up until nearly midnight.

Even coming online took longer than it ought to have. The mouse was plugged into the USB extension cable I use for my pen drive (and it's my cable so I think I can decide what to do with it) so I had to find a USB port at the back of the computer. This turned into quite a floor-level excursion. Then there was the small matter of the office chair by the computer being damn near at sea level itself...

I need to eat again, and take a shower, but showering at least will have to wait until tomorrow morning. Showering at nearly midnight is likely to make my landlady think I am certifiably insane.

And I'm so behind on badfics it's painful.

Ah yes, that preennial problem. I enjoy badfics and I want to keep on doing it, I just wish it didn't take so much damn time. Maybe I need to revise the report proforma, but I can't say much less and still get my points across...

Incidentally, I have Christmas money. I sales shopped with some of it to appease my mother, though it was only when we stopped looking at the sales items that I found anything that even remotely suited me (which was approximately five minutes before we had to meet up with my father, of course) and now I'm thinking of trying to buy some more Weiss Kreuz doujinshi, if there are any about the place to buy. I know I shouldn't but I want them.
