Shades of Gray
Well, yay.

*points to grayscale mood theme of lovely*

Much as I loved my anime!Ken mood theme, I was beginning to realize I was choosing my mood image to match the color of my icons. Which was beginning to strike me as a little bit on the weird side. So it's back to grayscale I go, because gray goes with everything. Also, the images are clearer and this way I get chibis.

Plus, I actually managed to finish the theme off this time round. (Those doujinshi were such a good buy.) I knew there had to be more images of Ken sleeping and being upset out there somewhere. Though I admit I did have to get a bit creative with my interpretation of some of the moods, and some I freely admit to using simply because I thought the picture was pretty. 'Yeah, that one could be counted as 'accomplished, Ken's killed someone, it's his job, I'll go with that. And arranging flowers is about as artsy as he gets...'

I got my scanner to work properly, too. Maybe dropping it on the floor helped.

Okay, there are a couple of images I am thinking of changing, again because I now have my doujins, but since they're all linked up nicely now, it's just a matter of changing the pictures at Photobucket.

Also, I think I want more Ken icons.

WTF, LAILA, WHY DO YOU WANT MORE KEN ICONS YOU ALREADY LOOK LIKE A PATHETIC FANGIRL NERD. EVER THOUGHT ABOUT UPLOADING AN ICON WHICH DIDN'T HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH WEISS KREUZ ONE OF THESE DAYS?

No.

Girls Who Are Boys Who Do Boys--
Today's quote buffet comes, I admit, from one of my own fanfics.

“I'm out.” Youji says with a chuckle. “I'd look like a stag night that had gotten out of hand.”

Because you know, much as I like boys in dresses, some boys out there just can't cut it without looking like a cut-price, extraordinarily unsuccessful drag act.

Today's plan was going to be that I do a very long, fanfic-inspired rant about why pretty boys are not pretty girls, and why it was silly to assume that a boy, because he was a pretty man, would look awesomely good in a skirt, and make a totally convincing and equally gorgeous woman, as opposed (say) to a boy in a skirt, since for some reason the Weiss Kreuz fandom simply can't seem to get their heads round this. For some reason, at least half the fandom appears to be laboring under the delusion that the pretty but determinedly masculine Aya, and the no less gorgeous but equally manly Schuldich, would make stunningly gorgeous women if you just stuck them into a dress.

(I know: I can't talk.)

I admit that, for the sake of the fanfic I discreetly linked to above, I once did suggest that Ken Hidaka could, under the right conditions, with the right carefully-chosen high-necked dress and with favorable (namely none-too-bright) lighting, pass as a woman rather than a nineteen year old boy in a skirt. Not a particularly attractive woman, in fact perhaps rather an awkward-looking and somewhat out of it one, but nonetheless he could pass as one.

“You do realize,” Manx says to the room at large, “that putting Siberian in a dress and trusting he’ll know what to do from there won’t fool anybody? It’ll take considerably more than that to make him into a convincing female.”

It did, however, take hours, most of which were spent with a genuine female nagging at him about his perferred form of 'I' and the importance of sitting with his knees together, as well as buying him a wig.

Weiss - that is the younger half of it - might be able to pass as women (and, in fact, canonically do even if Ken scowls far too much for a stewardess). But neither of them are exactly having to beat men off with a stick as a consequence and, as girls, there's somewhat boyish. Because, you know, they're boys.

So, fandom: why, exactly, do you think Aya would make such a marvelously attractive woman just because he's an attractive man? (Not an attractive boy. A man, and looking every inch of it.) Yes, he is very pretty and has lovely and intense violet orbs of wonderful that are like, the universe or something. But he is a pretty man - and not a particularly effeminate-looking one, either. Yes, he's slender, but he's tall and broad-shouldered with it, and about as curvaceous as an ironing board.

Want proof that Aya would make a rubbish woman? Well, I have proof:

That Gag Doujinshi Where Aya Crossdresses and Everyone Freaks Out.

No, I have precisely no idea what this doujinshi is actually called as I cannot begin to read Japanese - well, I know the katakana renderings of 'Aya', 'Youji', 'Ken' and 'Omi', but that doesn't help here. Doujinshi excerpted from Ja! Weiss 3, scans by me.

In short: Aya Fujimiya, in a dress, bears more than a passing resemblance to the one and only Eddie Izzard, Executive Action Transvestite.

There are worse things to resemble, admittedly, but for all that Eddie Izzard may be made of awesome (and he is, oh he is), when he's wearing drag he looks - let's admit it - exactly like what he's trying to look like: namely, not like the epitome of female beauty, but like a bloke in a dress.
