Damn, I got tagged... um, well,
angstchan tagged me a while ago for this quiz thing and I still haven't done it. Okay. Brilliant. What can I say apart from my memory could do with considerable improvement?
Now, if I can only remember the answers to these questions, I'll be all set.
1. Total number of books owned?
Not a clue. Even if you don't count manga as books it's probably several hundred. Most of them aren't in London with me, but that's largely because there's not enough room in my bedroom for them. Never have an English teacher for a mother - or a veritable bibiomaniac for a father. I swear I could be crushed to death under the weight of all the books in my parents' home.
2. The last book I bought?
Oh. You mean just a book, or does it have to be a novel? The last thing I remember buying was Weiss Side B 1-3, but I'm not entirely sure if that counts. I can't remember if I bought The Passion of New Eve by Angela Carter before or after that, but I got them both at around the same time, so take your pick depending on whether you'd rather know about my literary tastes or my obsession with blood-spattered manga containing Ken Hidaka.
3. The last book I read?
Again, it depends if manga count as books. If by books you mean books, I think I last finished reading (well, re-reading) Philip Kerr's The Pale Criminal, damn my obssession with noir fiction. I know I'm currently reading Inside the Third Reich by Albert Speer. For those of you who don't know your Third Reich he was Hitler's armaments minister. And so my secret hidden past as a history major jumps up and bites me on the ass.
4. 5 books that mean a lot to me?
Ah, now this time I really am going to restrict myself to literature, and not mention things like manga. Or biographies. Or books of essays. Or anything like that. Because if I did, I swear I'd never be able to limit this list to five...
The Big Sleep, Raymond Chandler
The Bonfire of the Vanities, Tom Wolfe
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hunter S. Thompson
The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald
Money, Martin Amis
5. Tag 5 people and have them fill this out on their LJs
Same list as last time, same stuff as last time - and same 'oh shit I only have four other people on my friends list' panic, too. Don't do it if you've done it or if you really don't want to, guys...

God damn, that was so much easier than the movie one. I guess I just get on rather better with books than I do with films. But that's just me, I guess. I obviously have a bit of a thing for books. It wasn't hard to pick some of the 'books that mean a lot to me', though, as I've managed to read my copies of some of these titles to death. I really need to buy Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas again, for example. My copy's been water damaged and is falling apart anyway. Must... get... book...
